n The Path of Least Resistance in Marketing Your Organic Products | The Anti-Marketing Manifesto

A while back, I read a great book called “The Path of Least Resistance: Learning to Become the Creative Force in Your Own Life” by Robert Fritz.

It’s such an amazing book!

And its wisdom applies to marketing and selling organic, non-toxic products online.

The book discusses what Fritz calls the “creative orientation” versus the “responsive-reactive orientation.” Knowing the difference between these two is critical to one’s success in selling products online.

While 99% of the world operates by “reacting” and “responding” to whatever life happens to throw at them…the creators of the world are intentionally designing the lives (and businesses) they want.

They do this by taking control of the underlying structures in their lives.

Think of the structure of a water slide. You climb the stairs to the top, you survey the scene, you sit down and position yourself for a fun ride. You give yourself a push, and down you go… (Maybe you did this as a kid.)

Your body maneuvers left and right, sliding fast, courtesy of the slippery water carrying you down.

Your path unfolds according to the structure of the slide. You can only go where the slide leads you.

Eventually you splash into a deep pool of water. Why? — because this is exactly where the structure led you. It was easy and you didn’t even have to try. There was no where else you could have possibly gone.

This is the path of least resistance.

The secret to being a CREATOR rather than a reactor/responder is to take control of the underlying structures in your life…and design them in such a way that they automatically support the outcomes you want.

Design the structures that inevitably lead to the outcomes you want…whether it’s increased online sales, growing your email list, getting more customers, making a difference in the world, or all of the above.

As Fritz explains, energy always follows the path of least resistance.

This means that whether we’re aware of it or not, the underlying structures of our lives determine where we end up.

As home-based business owners – in particular, those selling organic non-toxic products – we create success by creating STRUCTURES that support the sustained growth of all parties involved — our business, our customers, the earth, the earth’s ecosystems, and even our “competitors” who may not know any better.

I’m talking specifically about marketing and sales structures.

A sales funnel, for example, is an amazing structure that leads people in your target market directly into your “pool.”

Like the water slide, a sales funnel guides users quickly and easily from a starting point (not knowing you exist) to a final destination — that coveted place where they become lifelong fans and paying customers.

But without this sales funnel in place, this seamless journey can never happen.

Or…it takes longer than necessary for the right people to find you.
