n Building a Bigger Customer Base | The Anti-Marketing Manifesto

As a kid, I had a dream that I would “Live to 200, while looking 25.”

Mostly this was because I wanted to experience a LOT in life, and I didn’t want to age the way people typically allow themselves to age.

Seeing hunched over, droopy, old-looking, tired, sick-looking people, I wondered, “Why do they let themselves get like that?” What was the point?

I refused to believe in the concept of “being old.” It wouldn’t add to my life, so I just rejected it right off the bat.

Later I built my business around serving people who were full of life, energy, and youthfulness. They, too, refused to “be old.”

Today I’m sometimes shocked to see people my age on Facebook who look 20 years older than me… and we were in the same class.

Some of my peers are dying of cancer, some are obese, others have that “dead” stare in their eyes, like they’re bored to tears with how their life turned out. I can’t relate to any of them.

“What the hell happened?!” I wonder.

Then I close out of Facebook. (I don’t look at it often. Life isn’t lived staring at the evidence of other people’s dissolved dreams.)

So getting to the topic of this email subject line… how do you build a bigger customer base?

I know it’s on your mind, so read up!

First, stop trying to do what everyone else (i.e., your peers) are doing in marketing, because it’s slowly killing them.

Building a bigger customer base is an inside job. It starts by living your life to the fullest…doing the things that excite you, then writing about them.

(Or speaking about them. But writing is essential.)

The anti-marketing approach to building your customer base is to START WITH YOU!

Your personality, your stories, your life experiences… write and share about them!

Nobody else has them, and nobody else is you. This is precisely what makes you fascinating, and what will draw more customers in!

In a world where everyone seems to have abandoned their dreams, it’s super refreshing to read about someone out there who is DOING WHAT THEY LOVE!

The most banal life experiences that you think nobody would ever care about, are exactly what will fascinate people and get them buying more from you.

Find a way to tie in your life lessons & stories to your product or service…and people will buy!

They’ll spread the word, and you’ll grow your customer base.

That’s gold.
