n [Warning] Stop Trying to ‘Get’ Customers! – Start Giving! | The Anti-Marketing Manifesto

Dallas was so humid, that even in our hotel room, the pages of my printed AMM manuscript were damp! We had the AC ramped up the whole week.

It’s good to back in Colorado…where everything is dry!

A quick message before I head to Boulder for dinner at my favorite restaurant:

One of my anti-marketing principles is, “Stop ‘Getting’ Customers — Start Giving.”

It’s a principle that will truly change your business from the inside out…because it will shift you out of “taking” mode and into “giving” mode.

Predatory marketers have already taken so much out of humanity. The last thing the world needs is another “taker”…pillaging and plundering the earth for profits, while leaving destruction in its path.

As an anti-marketer, you’re first and foremost a GIVER!

Consider this quote from Raymond Holliwell’s book, Working with the Law:

“Giving, which is the first or fundamental law of life, is the first law of all creation. The attitude of getting is the law of life in a congested state, or in a repressed action. As long as ‘getting’ dominates a mind, that mind is in a paralyzed condition, being limited in its action in accord with the fundamental law of creation.”

This is also a biblical principle:

“Give and it shall be given unto you, good measure running over.” – Luke 6:38

If you look at your life…are there any areas where things seem “congested” and not working properly? (Especially in promoting your business and selling.)

If so, you may be in a “getting” mode.

Start putting yourself into a giving mode.

If you want to grow your business, what can you give?

  • Give free samples of your product or service
  • Give free educational content that motivates, educates, and inspires (MEIs) your customers
  • Give of your time and energy…by listening (with no agenda) to what people are asking for help with
  • Give your best in every situation and every customer interaction
  • Give your readers an amazing email & blog article that makes them want to forward it friends…even if you don’t sell a damn thing in that article.

Whatever you’re giving, it should come from a generous place, with no expectation of ever getting anything back.

By giving consistently, you will naturally draw people (and sales) to you.

(Example: as a copywriter, I’m always giving people GREAT ideas of article topics that will MEI their readers! I have no attachment as to whether or not they use the topics…but the giving always comes back to me, usually from an unexpected place.)

Not sure what to GIVE in your business? Let’s get on a call and figure it out.

Creating content that motivates, educates, and inspires (MEIs)… and sells — is a great way to give!

P.S. One client wrote, “The new landing page (with free gift…hint hint) is getting so many email signups! People are loving it!” Of course they are! People love a giver! Give more!
